in any gathering of people you'll have your fair share of douchebags...count 1, 2, 3...one will be your douchebag...problem is, Db's like to hang out together...they are the only ones who will tolerate each other...so, when you encounter one, you can feel like you're at sea amongst douchies...it's brain bending...

also, there's gradiant levels of douchbaggery...like the guy standing in line behind you who can't tell the difference between Lionel Richie singing "Easy Like Sunday Morning" and "Midnight Train to Georgia" by Gladys Knight & The Pips...he also insists that Q-Tip was always a solo artist who did some work with Common, Talib Kwelli, and Tribe Called Quest...rather than a founding member...it's annoying, but hardly the pinnacle of douchey...

that would be reserved for the know-it-all asshat with the smug smile who silently shakes his head and thinks about how he'll blog about this later...

first leg to D.C. complete...a rough flight...the last time I was on a plane that shook, rattled, and rolled that much I was wearing a uniform...but all is well, and I have two hours to kill...hmm...what to do?

was it really only eight years ago...

the company i work for is moving to a new building...so today, while cleaning one of my file cabinets, i found a wall street journal money & investing section lining the bottom of one of the drawers...dated March 27, 2000...this was the above the fold feature story...

were we so optimistic that we were actually looking for the end...that was just around the corner...if i remember correct...i just got hired...or was about to be...at janus funds...a year later...only a year later...a whole slew of us were laid off...along with every other shmoe in the lower echelons of the corporate ladder...

yet, i remember thinking that was a temporary setback...that jobs were plentiful, and i would soon fall into another plum position in some cubicle somewhere...

boy we've come a long way...

i also find this little tidbit interesting...

i've been unemployed 4 months...not coincidentally...there's been an explosion of activity here...notice that did not contain the words...writing...or, more important...work...

and it's not because no work is getting done...here is a list of everything i'm working on...but haven't told you about...

a short story involving characters from the first bsb book...who knows...maybe it's a first chapter...i am planning on submitting it...here...or maybe here...who knows...i hear Shoun is plotting a new publishing ad(venture)...the point is...for the first time i am writing something with intent to submit...

the very early stages of what i hope will grow into my first novel...partially growing out of the seed of the above mentioned short story...

the continued saga of Del, Mountain, John, and Nighttrain...the artwork Justin did for it...makes me want to raise my game up...



for some reason, that's just not enough for me...i've got something else up my sleeve...just as soon as i can clear one or two of these other works off my plate...

all of this...honest to god, it may sound like bragging...but it feels like whining...is to underline a point...two points really...

first...i start working at my new job tomorrow...so...you may see a slow down in...activity...here...to be honest, i'm looking forward to it...

second...you will see an uptick in posts regarding...my continued affair with writing...

here's one thing that's been on my mind lately...

the disappearing black ceo...not that i knew how many there are before i read the article...and not that i have any coherent thoughts about the state of black ceo's...i find it odd...or maybe...less than coincidental...that two of them got run out on rails...in the space of a week...i don't know all the details...perhaps they deserved the axe...it's the timing i find suspect...if only i knew who wins when black ceo's get humiliated in public...

(BTW...i'll have something to say about mr mailer when i finally finish one of his books..)

i learned something today...

there are only 850 words that make up the basis of basic english...somehow...i already knew that...

what i learned was...the term basic english...is also an official title for...one of the many languages people purposefully created...as opposed to the living languages...that constantly evolve...on our tongues...and in our ears...

now i've heard of esperanto...but...i knew nothing about it...especially...that it's part of...over 100 years of human effort to create...something like a universal language...this new information...fascinates me...

digging a little deeper...i discover this effort is not limited to business and politics...but also includes...more imaginative...endeavors...

somewhere down the line...i can see myself really diving...furthur...into this subject...

btw...update on bsb...10 chapters left...

great...another toy for me to play with...

good news is...8 chapters...in the pocket...gotta keep marching...
